KYES is easy to pick up from our Mt. Susitna signal, channel 29 (move pending to 16). Being low and in the Talkeetna River valley, all Anchorage TV signals are pretty weak. You can get good quality pictures on Goose Bay and KYES main Eagle River Transmitters by careful installation of the best antenna you can afford. If you desire to watch the channel 24 ARCS signal and our UHF channel 29 (move pending to 16) signal, add a rotator and buy an all band antenna.

Willow-Houston-Wasilla-Big Lake
Goose Bay and KYES Eagle River are very strong and all signals are about the same direction from Willow and Houston. At Big Lake and Wasilla, you may want a rotator to optimize reception. A modest VHF only antenna should do for channels 2,5,7 and 13, A large antenna will be needed for channels 4 and 11. UHF channels 33 and 35 will require a good size UHF antenna.

Wasilla
KYES Eagle River and Goose Bay channels 2 7 and 13 are very strong and all VHF signals come in from almost, but not exactly the same direction. A large antenna will be needed for channels 4 and 11. UHF channels 29 (move pending to 16)(KYEX has different programs occasionally), 33 and 35 will require a good size UHF antenna, and 29 (move pending to 16) absolutely needs a rotator.

Palmer
Palmer is on the cusp of shadow by the Chugach range. In much of Palmer KYES is strong as are Goose Bay signals. Toward the East chances of good direct reception diminish. Alternatives are channel 12 from Grubstake and channel 29 (move pending to 16) from Mount Susitna for KYES reception, and channels 9 for KTUU and 66 for KTVA from Lazy Mountain. We recommend a good all band antenna with rotator.Sutton
KYES can best be seen in Sutton on Channel 5, 12 or 29 (move pending to 16) depending on location. Your exact location will determine your probability of reception results. A good all band with rotator and RF pre amp will give the best results and highest probability of success for channels 2 through 66.

Butte-Old Glenn Highway
The Chugach probably blocks signals from our main KYES Eagle River transmitter. You should look for channel 29 (move pending to 16) Mount Susitna or channel 12 Grubstake. Both are strong and easy to receive in most locations along the Highway. You will probably need to get channel 66 to see CBS. In a few spots you may need to use channel 9 to see NBC. Use a modest all band antenna, with a rotator to point toward Mount Susitna, Grubstake, Goose Bay or Lazy Mountain to clearly see the respective signals.

Knick River Road
Until mile 2 channels 29 (move pending to 16),12 9 and 66 are available. After that only the only TV station you can see is our Palmer channel 12 signal. I didn't see any satellite dishes out there either! Probably the mountains block satellite reception. A modest antenna should work, and if the only signal you can get is our channel 12 you don't need a rotator.

Eagle River
In most of Eagle River the KYES channel 5 signal is extremely intense. For most persons with fixed outdoor antennas, your antenna is pointed the wrong way! In a minority of cases this may cause distorted pictures and sound. If so, a slight rotation of the antenna may help. Also, try connecting rabbit ears in parallel with the outdoor antenna. Channel 29(move pending to 16) is available.

Eagle River Valley to the Visitor Center
Channel 5 is intense and clear where you can see the tower, the South Fork area, Hiland Road. Channel 5 on the North side of the valley is shadowed. Use channel 29 (move pending to 16), Mount Susitna, which should be good until about 2 miles from the Visitor Center. For the few homes at the end of the road, A very good channel 5 Yagi or UHF antenna has a decent chance of seeing a good signal via reflection off the valley walls.

Fort Rich-Elmendorf-Anchorage Bowl
Channel 5 is strong an clear in Anchorage. Although, no signal covers 100%, chances of high quality channel 5 reception in the Anchorage Bowl exceeds that of the competition. If you are near the channel 4 transmitter you may experience overload or radiated intermodulation interference. If the signal of any station must penetrate a nearby tall building, expect difficulty. In case of such problems, channel 29 (move pending to 16) may be a good easy option.
WIRED CABLE: GCI Anchorage passes most homes, and has a double hop microwave feed from our studio to their head end. From the Microwave on, GCI is responsible for signal quality.
WIRELESS CABLE - WANTV: This MMDS service picks up our channel 5 signal at their office and sends it via microwave to your home.
WIRELESS CABLE -ACS: This service does not retransmit local TV, but instead uses your roof top antenna.
Anchorage Hillside above Hillside Dr.,De Armoun Rd.,Rabbit Creek Rd.,Goldenview, Potter Valley
O Malley Road: Channel 5 strong up to Hillside Dr.
Huffman: Channel 5 strong up to Hillside.
De Armoun Rd.: After about mile 2 terrain may block channel 5. Try 29 (move pending to 16) or 14.

Indian Girdwood, Portage
Indian residents may have a chance to see the channel 29 (move pending to 16) signal reflected off the mountain walls across the Turnagain Arm. If you see a recognizable and not too smeared picture, a good high gain UHF antenna might do the trick. Plans include moving Girdwood over the air KAKM to channel 7 and placing KYES on existing channel 5.

Kenai
Hope & parts of Turnagain
Where you can see Mount Susitna, you can get reception from channel 29 (move pending to 16). Parts of Hope have coverage. Sterling, Nikiski, North Kenai
Our Eagle River Channel 5 signal is very strong in your area. You may also use our channel 6 translator on the Kenai-Soldotna AT&T Alascom tower, which is co-located with all the other channels, 2,8,9,10 & 12.Kenai-Soldotna
In the Kenai River "valley" terrain is low, so the Anchorage channel 5 signal is weakened. However, channel 5 is usable in much of the area. The channel 6 translator signal from the AT&T Alascom tower should be very good quality.

Kasiloff-Clam Gulch
Both channel 5 and 6 are available. 6 should be good quality.

Homer
October 30, 2003, KYES began broadcasting on ch 9, from the common Seldovia transmit site.
Channel 5 Anchorage can be received at the highest spot on East End Road, and a few spots above Homer. Otherwise, reception is impossible. KYES is attempting to get permission to start a signal from Seldovia on Channel 9.
CABLE: GCI Cable has KYES on channel 5.
Cooper
Cooper Landing residents may see a very week CH 6 Kenai signal, but we have no plan to provide reception there.

Skwentna, Tyonek, Alexander
The channel 5 Eagle River transmitter lays a very strong signal over these areas. A few cabins on Alexander Creek may have terrain obstruction toward Anchorage. If so, channel 29 (move pending to 16) may provide a good second signal option.

Seldovia
Our channel 9 may be OK. Please let us know.
Seldovia homes at locations above 1,000 feet above sea level may have good reception of our Anchorage channel 5 signal. I have watched clear pictures on a hand held TV walking near the State of Alaska translator site. We hope to get State and FCC authorization to retransmit that signal on channel 9. The FCC application is pending, and a grant to broadcast on that channel should be made in the next few months.
