Thank you for visiting our site. If you have comments on TV programming, KYES, KYEX or anthing about TV in general, we would love it if you would Add your comments to our guest pages!
My family and I love your programming, the only problem being that you air very provocative commercials before 10pm. I don't feel as though I can allow my children to watch this station without supervision. I really would appreciate if the commercials were more discreet.

"To a friend":
If you didn't get some laughs, you missed the point.  Those legendary and fascinating tantrums of his were never frightening to me or *ever* directed at me.  He was *always* in control (and very creative, I must say!).  It was always healthy.  If you didn't know this, you didn't know Jeremy.  He was as frightening as an angry Donald Duck.  And just as fun.  You'd provoke him just for the hell of it.  Humor is one of life's pleasures.  It helps dissolve the pain and frustration.  And is a worthwhile skill to learn.  Jeremy taught it to me.
There is much pain ("not only physical"--that's bad enough, as it is) in this world that is *never* publicised.  I had a severe stuttering problem (there are some of you won't know what I'm talking about until you walk into a public venue such as a bank with a long line and do that 5-second block speech path students are assigned).  I was terrified of going on the air.  And painfully shy and withdrawn.  Not many in his position would have put up with the level of dysfunction I had at that point in my life.  Jeremy *cared*.  One day I asked him why.  I am so grateful for Joel.  Jeremy had already "been through what I was enduring".  And he "took the time to do the work" to do what he could to help me build my self-esteem.  Not many *have* 'taken the time'.  And what I remember best was 'afterward' in the Summer of '73.  I got to work with 'just Jeremy'--all to myself.  They are lovely memories: the Joy, the healing Laughter.  He's the only person I've known (so far) that can truly 'bring me alive'.  And it's *always* been self-esteem "if it's Jeremy".
I have been fortunate to have had many constellations 'up there in the sky' that have done what they could for me in my life.  One, for instance, happens to be named "Ed Mysak" (some will know such a name).  And those stars are always there when you need them (if only "in memoriam" as Mysak is now).  And I really can't tell you exactly *why* the constellation that has always seemed to shine the brightest for me is the one named *Jeremy*.
  And it flies high overhead.

"60", eh?  So you were maybe 29 or so at the time..   Remember that remote across the Mississippi River in Illinois?  I think you had to climb up a tree to mount the transmitting antenna.  And that custom made huge Yagi we mounted on the roof at the station.  Occasionally I'd dumbfound you (it wasn't easy!), reminding you not to worry about the effect of any mounting hardware anywhere down the middle of it.  I did it to you on that "RC" calculation once too (ha!--and I was only 23).
Anyway, the remote never worked.  When we got back, you discovered you screwed-up a setting on the receiver. We had spent several days on this thing.
It was like some kind of berserk chimpanzee.  Wielding this huge "old-fashioned" fire extinguisher over its head.  You launched it bouncing down those 2 flights of stairs at the station.  They should have kept a tranquiliser gun mounted next to it.  God knows how they deal with it all at KYES there now..

You were glad Larry was in town visiting the station--(I'm glad I had already left so he could *enjoy it*).  He somehow convinced you when he originally built those line-amps that it wasn't necessary to polar-key them when you warned him to do so.  He told you no one would ever be dumb enough to reverse them.  But you didn't tell me all this until I came back later that evening when I asked you what had happened to my door.  Those unreplaceable custom-made line-amp cards were super-fried after I put them back in and rushed out of the station thinking all was well.  This took out the production room.
That door to my room where I was living at the station had been axed out almost to splinters.  I always kept it closed so I could hide from everyone.  I didn't want to have to deal with all that social pressure of having to interact with all those new people constantly coming into the station.  Maybe you thought I was still inside or something.  All that was left on its hinges was the door 'frame'--it was all just "air" with its horizontal cross-piece left in the middle with a small carrot stuck in it.  With that stupid green tail hanging from it on the end.
   I don't like carrots.

Larimore asked, "Are you under the amazing misconception that the only way to deliver weapons of mass destruction is on missiles?" I ask, "Which country is an arms exporter? Which country is an arms importer? Which country has an atomic weapon? Which country wants to have an atomic weapon? Which country has the capability today to sell nuclear arms to ________(fill in the blank for your own rogue or terrorist outfit___? Then Larimore asks, "How many wars has North Korea started in the past generation?" and I ask in response, "which nation is at war today?"
Then Larimore asks, "How many civilians have they gassed?" and I ask, which was the first Arab nation to use gas in war? (I'll answer that, cause I'll bet you don't know that it was Nasser's Egypt in Yemen against Saudi backed forces, 1963 through 1967. During the Yemeni civil war phosgene and mustard aerial bombs killed at least 1,400 people.) Larimore asks, "How many WMD attacks have they initiated?" I ask. "Which nations have used WMD in war? Please tell us the definition of WMD. Then list instances of use of such weapons in the last 100 years. Thanks
Your naiveté is touching, but misplaced. Are you under the amazing misconception that the only way to deliver weapons of mass destruction is on missiles? NK does, and the communist dictatorship is no more restrained in their actions than Saddam is in his. How many wars has North Korea started in the past generation? How many civilians have they gassed? How many WMD attacks have they initiated? Now answer the same questions for Saddam.

Just saw a blurb on the KTVA website about GCI planning on offering the digital broadcasts of local stations when they become available. Also: "Dish Network is negotiating with the local broadcast channels to start carrying their signal on the dish network system. That could happen as early as this spring." I assume they mean the digital broadcasts of the major networks from some other cities in the Lower 48? It'll take some time for the local Anchorage stations to test HDTV broadcasts once they decide to erect antenna(e). Any recent word from KYES on this, or do the local broadcasters plan to weasel another extension from the FCC?

I didn't misunderstand anything. I think you should wait for the facts to come out about Iraq before assuming they are not a threat. I think Korea is using political blackmail to get what they want. That's what this is, they just want concessions. Iraq has a madman in charge. He kills people. Have you contacted Bush and told him he needs to read the New York Times to get his info. Or you? I'm sure he has much more info on the subject considering he has Rumsfeld, Rice, Powell and Cheney helping him and not the NY Times. If we wanted to bomb Iraq for oil, why didn't we take it after Kuwait? Why didn't we tell saddam we'd drop sanctions on him if he'd give up some oil? Would you approve of bombing North Korea?

Thank you for your comments, but I think you misunderstand.
Did you see the ADN today, front page right hand column - (from the New York Times)? Why shouldn't we blow up Yongbyon today?

-------------
(Source: US Department of Defense; issued Dec. 24, 2002) WASHINGTON --- The Bush administration pressed North Korea diplomatically to refrain from restarting a dormant nuclear reactor, even as the defense secretary warned that the U.S. military could simultaneously take on both Iraq and the communist Pyongyang regime.

"We are capable of fighting two major regional conflicts," Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld said Monday. "We're capable of winning decisively in one and swiftly defeating in the case of the other, and let there be no doubt about it." -JL

I copied someone else's remark word for word because I feel EXACTLY the same way. I beleive it very irresponsible of a tv station to air what you did last night. Because of recent comments by KYES owner and management denouncing President Bush's stance on Iraq, I will be contacting all local businesses advertising on KYES and asking them to cease advertising on KYES. I urge others that support our President to do the same. The left-wing extremist liberal "do nothing KYES owner/management crowd" would rather standby and let Iraq develop a nuclear weapon so we have another madman with nuclear weapon capability. History has shown time and again that when good men do nothing, evil men flourish. Of course we wouldn't be facing the problem with North Korea if our left-wing liberal President Clinton had not provided North Korea with the materials and technology to build a nuclear weapon.

Fbettine, Thank you for your comments.
I have some responses.

1. Where did I say I "...would rather standby and let Iraq develop a nuclear weapon"? I don't think those are my words or meaning. Please explain.
The other response is that North Korea did not get nuclear magerial from the US.

2. Lets see... You say Clinton was responsible for Korea getting Nuke technology. Who was president in 1984?

From: http://www.kimsoft.com/korea/nk-nukes.htm
"Yongbyon Reactor I - The construction of this natural uranium-graphite power reactor began in 1980 at Yongbyon, 100 km north of Pyongyang. It is based on a 1950 MAGNOX technology (graphite moderator, aluminum-magnesium clad natural uranium fuel , CO2 gas cooling). The reactor was completed in 1984 and it as was activated in February 1987 under Prof. Ha Kyong Won, a Korean physicist educated in US. After many startup problems, it was operating at 20-30 MW by 1990.

"N. Korea removed about 30 lb. of plutonium from this reactor in 1988 and built two nuclear bombs. From 1989 to 1991, N Korea may have extracted additional 60 lb. of plutonium, enough for five nukes."

It seems the North Korean reactor, though of Soviet design, was home brew. From the Congressional Research Service we find: "Knowledgeable individuals believe that the Soviet Union did not assist directly in the development of Yongbyon in the 1980s. The U.S.S.R. provided North Korea with a small research reactor in the 1960s, which also is at Yongbyon. However, North Korean nuclear scientists continued to receive training in the U.S.S.R. up to the demise of the Soviet Union in December 1991. East German and Russian nuclear scientists reportedly are in North Korea. Russian military officials confirmed the presence of Russian nuclear scientists inside North Korea in January 1994."

Correction for first letter News from VinZant/Mendias FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Oct. 18, 2002 CONTACT: Violet M. VinZant Communication Director (907) 262-3736 VinZant Calls for Inclusive Debates Dear Senator Murkowski: This is a letter I am sending out to the newspapers in Alaska but they usually will not print what a minority candidate submits. We are like the three Musketeers, Diana Benson, Billy Toien and Raymond P. VinZant, Sr., one for all and all for one representing the people. The Lt. Governor Ulmer is stacking the deck again I think that Fran Ulmer is a phony. By reading her stories, campaign articles and the information contained there she had to spend many sleepless nights writing this web site. I remember 1998 when governor Tony Knowles declared a state disaster because the fish returns were down and prices bottomed out. He waited till just before the general election to make this move sending Alaska State Defense Forces and other state welfare agencies out into the field and into the native villages and communities of Alaska to take applications for FEMA that was not yet approved by the federal government, promising up to $1500 per family to help them through the winter. Big deal! He just barely slid into office that year. If that was not enough he waited for just before the general election to have the republican candidate declared ineligible because of residence. Who’s arm did he twist or should I have said the Lt Governor? After all she was the person in charge of the Department of Elections and Alaska Public Office Commissions at that time. This made it too late for another candidate to generate a following and campaign for the election that year and still Tony just slid by carrying The Lt. Governor with him. Now we have the Lt. Governor running for the office of Governor making daily appearances and not being in Juneau earning her pay, or is she not excepting funds since about June, where she went in hot pursuit of the office of governor. The Lt. Governor has made many cracks about Senator Frank Murkowski serving his country and the state. He has just about run himself to death back and forth to Washington DC, missing appearances in Alaska many times, he is still at work for us. Thanks Frank. I still think that the Lt. Governor is a phony. At the Commonwealth of the North she couldn’t refrain from making cracks about his absents. Senator Frank Murkowski had a letter sent out to all the Radio stations, TV stations and newspapers throughout Alaska. Murkowski Calls for Inclusive Debates “To include certain candidates from full participation in the debates that are such an important part of the election process would be undemocratic and runs counter to the spirit, if not the letter of state elections laws,” Murkowski wrote. “If you agree I would ask you to join me in calling on those organizing debates and newspapers forums to open their events to all bona fide candidates for governor.” Under Election laws candidates are to have equal time. If it’s offered to one it must be offered to all. So far the Lt. Governor has not agreed to the laws that she is sworn to uphold, the state election laws and regulations of APOC. I shall insert this letter as an attachment also the letter to Lt. Governor Fran Ulmer. I agree with most of the proposals put forth by my fellow candidates for Governor, but my experience with a parachute plan is like the pilot in a B29 bailing out over Germany during World War II from the frying pan into the fire. The unknown lies below. To me parachutes are a last action and a line of last resort usually by this time it’s too late to change the out come, come hell or high water. Raymond P. Ok, the subject is DTV. Not a lot has changed since my comments a few lines below this. We have authorization to construct on channel 22 from Mt. Susitna. Our first focus is rebuilding the KYES main transmitter, but the TV Consortium is now considering a new joint site, and KYES may be part of that. I cannot tell you more at this time, but we are going to NAB to learn more about DTV equipment, antennas, towers, etc. and will be meeting with staff of our friends from other stations. KYES will look to transmitting high quality standard def. TV on the digital channel, as we have no resources to do more, although we cannot know the future.- jdl

Wow! I just stumbled here trying to find out about HDTV from KYES. After reading the "other" stations were joining to put up an HDTV antenna in Spenard, but not until 2003 I wondered about KYES.I'm planning to get an HDTV card for my computer as soon as HDTV is available in Anchorage. The thought of Enterprise and Frasier even sharper than cable is tantalizing.Great, informative site.P.S. -- I cancelled my local phone service from ACS months ago and they are STILL sending me bills for $11/month. Next step, cancelling ACS Wireless!

Sorry I took so much time answering. We have lots of plans, but plenty of diversion, so it is unclear exactly when we will get our fist DTV signal on the air. I guess the main expense at the moment is a reasonably priced digital encoder. Since none of our program suppliers have expressed HDTV plans, we plan to begin by broadcasting DTV off our channel 29 site on channel 22 with SDTV. However, our main project this year will be to cure the problems we have had with ACS and the channel 5 transmitter. Oh, and thanks for your complement.- jdl

I was wondering what the DTV plans were for KYES. Is the channel going to be broadcasting by May, 2002? If not, then what is the timeline? Thank you very much. I enjoy watching KYES greatly.

I'm writing to express my comments on the new 7-up commercial wherein a man "the new 7-up man" exposes himself to sell the product. I think it is indecent and very poor taste. The 7up icon has always represented to me a good, clean image. It is now degraded and filthy.Because of this advertisement I will no longer purchase this product. I urge you to review this add and ask you to stop showing it.

That spot, which I find offensive, seems to get my attention. The commercial probably works very weel for them, but to answer your complaint, I'd like to point out how wonderful it is that Americans have the right to do this. Many countries would put sucn an advertiser in jail or worse. -webweaver
I am discusted to see the American Flag violated as you play the commercial for One Stop Travel. Use of the flag in advertising is a violation of the flag code, and you are degrading America by playing that commercial!

I appreciate that you run episodes of "Stargate SG-1" on Saturdays (repeated on Sundays), but I am wondering if it would be too much to ask if you ran them in the chronological order in which they were originally broadcast. For example, in two weeks you will be playing the Fourth Season premiere, "Small Victories," which should have been the first episode you played this "season." Almost every episode you have played in the last several weeks has not been in the correct order. If you are uncertain as to the proper airing order, please visit www.stargate-sg1.com.

The entries at 9-Oct-2001 14:19:10, 19 Oct at 11:41:25, and October 22, 2001 at 19:58:26 are all spam from the same IP on Shaw Cable.net, a Canadian ISP. Furthermore, provisions regarding some of the contents of this site and this web page are found in the rules and regulations of the Federal Communications Commission (Title 47 C.F.R. part 73). Shane. Thanks for your comments. If you look at the UPN network schedule, you will see the absence of 7 days on KYES is that it no longer exists on the network schedule (look at http://www.upn.com/upn.html.) Sometimes the TV affiliates are the last to find out what is happening. I looked on the web and it seems the show is canceled. Maybe you will hear differently from our program director.I notice the official www.sevendays.com site is no longer answering. Don, thanks for your comments.I would consider a good UHF log periodic, if I knew where to tell you to get one. I know I have seen some not too expensive looking ones on cable head end roofs. I just installed a Scala to pick up channel 29 for the channel 12 translator, but that is a $500+ overkill for a home rooftop. When I find out where to get stuff like that I'll add it to the web site.I remember being told about a large rhombic on phone poles Mt. Haleakala, used to pick up Honolul TV for the Maui satellite stations. That was in, like 1960. I finally got to see the top of Haleakala a few years back, and the rhombic was gone. But the mountain was not. Pretty nice place.

Folks, You have a great site in fact the most informative I have seen on TV antenna info. I had much fun here in the D.C. area trying to get good HDTV reception due to all the known problems, to date, including distance, airport interference (planes from DCA) ect. I finally got a 45 ement UHF ant and stacked it with my other channel master (VHF/UHF). Some overkill here but it works better than the VHF/UHF combo, yes I have the CM preamp. I plan to put this all up on a much higher mast to see what imorovement I get. By the way I have a copy of an article (from the 60's) wherein some folks in upper NY put up a Rhombic ant to get far distant TV stations - they said they were the only antennas that could work in the mountains? Again great site -keepup the good work Don Kennedy

A day when America is attack by an enemy surpassing the horror of Pearl Harbor, and you station plays cartoons. What kind of people are you anyway?Oh well, four airliners crash, two skyscrapers collapse, and the Pentagon is bombed and life goes on, no big deal.I am sick to my stomach and you have made me that way. Your insensitivity and no care attitude is disgusting. You can be sure I will be telling many about your conduct. Wes, thanks for your comments on our "being on the air". We could have kept the station on the air while the antenna was moved if it had not been for our friends at ACS. They are the ones that did not plan for relocation of antennas on the Eagle's Nest tower site in Eagle River. As it is, we were on the air, but at low power on channel 5, and of course you had the option to get fine reception on channel 29/80. Why didn't you look for the UHF relay signal?

Having never seen KYES (yet) and since we're KYES blind & deaf down here in San Jose CA (boost that signal a few terawatts eh? Jeremy; I think Anchorage will survive the fry...) I was asking Elizabeth (who claims to be Jeremy's mother though I have my doubts as to whether he's even terrestrial) as to whether KYES has the Jeremy “imprimatur”. She said you'd never know it from any other commercial station ... so I gather the Anchorage viewer has never had the experience of having their viewing pleasure suddenly interrupted as they find themselves confronted by some stark raving lunatic:*Excoriating and berating them as he vents his spleen:About all that he's sacrificed for them...And all the thankless work he has to do...And how this transmitter has him at his wits end...And that he can't take it anymore...And how no one cares about his plight...And why haven't they done anything to help...*: having spent the previous week(s) & nights struggling with the original dysfunctional Transmitter From Hell Ah, such nostalgia ...
